The ICNEM XVIII will be held in Ascona, Canton Ticino, Switzerland on the edge of Lago Maggiore from June 9-14, 2013. Canton Ticino is the only Italian-speaking Swiss canton and faces the magnificent Lake Maggiore.

The conference is set at the Centro Stefano Franscini, situated on the hill above the charming village of Ascona. The main building of the Centro was designed in 1924 by Emil Fahrenkamp, a member of the Bauhaus. The Hotel Monte Verita building is Switzerland Historical Hotel of the year for 2013 due to its well-preserved Bauhaus design, the avant-garde in architecture in the inter-war period. The bedrooms have recently been renovated extensively to recover their full original design, colors and Bauhaus furniture.

Presentations are 25 minutes maximum with 5 minutes for questions.  Hour slots are 55 minutes with 5 minutes for questions.  Cool weather is anticipated.  Along with your swimsuit, consider multiple clothing layers as well as a rain coat and/or umbrella.  Bring a Swiss (not EU) electrical plug adapter.

From Milan Linate airport, there is a regular airport bus to Centrale station that takes approximately 20 minutes.

Trains run from both cities to Locarno from 5-6 AM until fairly late in the evening including Sunday. In Zurich, the trains run approximately every hour. In Milan, trains run every 1-2 hours depending on the station. (Check schedules for the specific train station to avoid delays.) Purchase tickets at the train stations on day of arrival for 32 CHF from Zurich.
